This place brings me back to my childhood. The plain porridge with sweet potatoes paired with the flavorful sides are *chef's kiss*. This place is very affordable for the Bay Area. Amongst three people we order porridge, three hot bar entrees and a special order entree, and we only spent $57!!!!!! What a steal. My favorites were definitely the pig ear and cold beef salad. Yes, you won't find any fancy frills at this establishment, but it serves its purpose. A quiet, comforting dinner in a laidback Taiwanese restaurant. This is perfect for a cold, rainy day where you're just craving some porridge!

Taiwan Porridge is tucked away in strip plaza, this humble porridge spot feels like a cozy embrace from the past--offering the kind of comfort food you'd expect from a home-cooked meal if your mom were in the kitchen. As soon as you're seated, you're greeted with a bowl of porridge and a cup of hot water. I wish the porridge arrived a bit hotter, as it tends to cool off quickly before you have a chance to dig in. The ordering process is a bit different here; after settling in, you're invited to head to the front to choose from an array of cold dishes. While many guests might be drawn to these options, I usually opt for the heartier menu items that come freshly cooked and delivered to your table. The steamed fish is tender and flavorful, and the a choy veggies come in a huge portion. The omelet is always the table's favorite, very simple but done well. I visited this spot recently when I was feeling under the weather. Whether you're craving something warm and soothing or just a taste of home, Taiwan porridge delivers a no frill comforting experience.

I love this place so so much ! Their food is so nostalgic to me as a Taiwanese-American. It reminds me of food that my mom and family members in Taiwan would use to cook. I will say though, I feel like some of their flavor profiles have been changing slightly, but it is still good food overall. When I go in person, I always get the steamed halibut as I love the sauce that it goes with. I also like getting this tofu dish of theirs, any of their stir-fried vegetables, and some egg dishes. My Mandarin is not the best but I can mostly get by with ordering what I need. Also, when I'm sick, I like to order their food through UberEats, and I'll usually order their porridge (with sweet potato, yum) and their steamed halibut. Anyways, there's lots of seating but if you try to go during peak times such as evenings or weekend lunches, you may have to wait just a teeny bit for a table. When you do get seated, you then have to go back up to the counter to select all of your food. There's some menu items that are only in Chinese on the wall, which kind of sucks since I read Chinese very slowly... the service is also okay as they are just people trying to do their job. The interior is a bit plain, with decorations of memorabilia from Taiwan, but this is one of my favorite restaurants in the area and my family knows to come here every year on my birthday !

Very homey food and atmosphere. The service was good and they were patient as we decided what to order from the counter. Good food and amazing value.

Been here so many times even when I was a kid and I can't believe I never wrote them a review. Well, there's a first time for everything! Cold outside? Feeling sick? Seeking comfort food? Love porridge? Want to pick from a huge assortment of dishes? Taiwan Porridge Kingdom is your place. I usually order takeout here and ask for the porridge, which is filled with yams (yum!). This is the perfect food for cold days and is quite affordable too! If you're dining in, you get seated and then you go up to the counter to select all the food you want to eat. Then, you can order porridge or steamed rice. If you go for weekday lunch, the lunch special is a solid deal - $14 for 3 items or $17 for 4 items and comes with steamed white rice. $2 extra if you want porridge instead. Pretty much every dish is good here but I'll run down what I usually like: 1) Bean Delight - edamane with bean curd 2) Beef and pork tongue in chili sauce 3) Bean curd noodle 4) Cold jellyfish (they have probably the best one in the area) 5) Pork blood intestine tofu with spicy sauce 6) meatball stew with Napa cabbage 7) Napa cabbage with black mushroom and dried shrimp 8) spicy chicken with chili pepper (I love a good spicy fried chicken) 9) string bean with chicken 10) fish filet with pickled mustard green 11) any of the egg omelets 12) braised squid Typically if I pick my own top 4 dishes, it would be: 1) cold jellyfish 2) spicy chicken with chili pepper 3) egg omelet 4) string bean with chicken (need those veggies!) With so many options here, you're guaranteed to find at least one dish you like. Definitely give them a try if you haven't been here. You might find yourself becoming a regular like me week after week.

I occasionally come to these sorts of restaurants with my SO and we decided to try this place out on a whim post hike. We arrived and by default I was confident we needed to queue up then get seated. Things got a little confusing though cause we noticed groups of people standing at the entrance but it just looked like everyone was lining up. My SO asked to clarify things. Then we ordered the special house chicken, fried tofu and oyster omlette. The oyster omlette was delicious! The chicken was decent, it was much more fried than I thought it was and had too many fried batter bits. The oyster omlette was a surprise in how delicious it tasted. However, it did need some more seasoning. The fried tofu was good but such a small square of tofu! The sweet potato porridge is also decent. I would prefer some salt or five spice to go with it. Overall, decent place. We went during peak dinner hours so it was packed but the wait was reasonable.

I've been going to TPK for a long time, so I felt it was time to write a review. As always their line isn't too bad and they serve you fast. The store has lots of tables. You walk up to the counter and order individual items. The items all feel like mom's cooking. Great comfort foods that can make you happy. The items are pretty value. I think size is fair for $8-10 each. Take it home with rice or porridge and you can make it last a while. The quality of the foods aren't a joke. I really like the tripe spicy, bamboo, and jellyfish. It's hard to choose and their choices change but there are always good choices. I've been going and will continue to go!

One of the best Chinese meals I've had in the Bay Area, and that's saying quite a lot since I eat Chinese several times per week. There are good Cantonese places, then there are good Szechuan places, but Chinese cuisines in between are far fewer. For Taiwanese, you can go to pricey places like Good to eat in Emeryville, but if you want a quick bite of some delicious premade food, this is the spot. Tastes like home cooking, no frills type of spot. Service may not be the friendliest, that's how you tell it's a legit Chinese spot. Do note they don't offer the lunch specials on weekends - it's weekdays Mondays through Thursdays only. A la carte each dish runs from $8-$12, so for two people I recommend 4 dishes with the sweet potato congee. I can't wait to come back and trying more dishes!

This mom n' pop shop serves authentic Taiwanese side dishes and generous bucket of hot fresh porridge with large chunks of sweet potatoes. Their menu prices are quite expensive but we love coming here for their weekday lunch specials deal- only $14.00 for a 3 items combo and $17.00 for a 4 items combo. It's $2.00 extra if you want porridge instead of white rice. It is limited to the lunch hour from 11am to 4pm on Monday to Friday. I love coming here to order a lunch combo with the yummy hot porridge during the weekday because their lunch price is unbeatable. Since their lunch special ends at 4pm, we sometimes would come around 3:30pm or 3:45pm to order lunch specials as takeouts and save it for our dinner. Heeheehee! They also have a late night Happy Hour 20% off during 8pm to 9pm on the weeknight (Mon to Thurs only).

Super authentic Taiwanese food! You order a bunch of side dishes at the counter and there are large bowls of porridge with sweet potato at the tables to eat them with. I tried the meat balls, fish, tofu noodles, bamboo, pork, squid, and edamame- the highlight for me was definitely the meat balls, the meat was so soft and yummy. A very comforting meal and they served us pretty generous portion sizes for the sides! Nice spot for casual dining and a comforting meal.
